Olav E Fiskerstrand AS had the pleasure of visiting Tokyo and Seoul. At this trip we once again got to experience great hospitality from our dear customers. We also attended the Seafood seminars in Tokyo and Seoul where we received important information about the different markets and the industry as a whole.
Pelagic manager Gro Valderhaug and general manager Eldar Overå had the opportunity to greet the Norwegian Minister of Fisheries and Ocean Policy Marianne Sivertsen Næss to talk about the importance of having the same framework conditions as our competing countries.
Norway currently has a 7% tax when exporting pelagic species to Japan, while the UK only has a tax of 3.9%. Our customers have mentioned that this will have an impact in the future because much of the fish is caught in the same area. It is important that Norway gets a free trade agreement with Japan in place so that we can compete with UK in the future.
Management of quotas between the coastal states is another topic that was discussed, and which is important for the pelagic industry.
All things considered we had a great trip and we look forward to do it again.
